A small class of six to eight students forms each IP class. The smaller number of students allows the teacher to spend a thorough amount of time with each student as needed.
The regular academic subjects (reading, math, spelling, writing, language, science, history) will be taught in the IP class. Other parts of the day (lunch, PE, music, chapel, etc.) will be spent in interaction with students of the same grade level. Discovery Program Therapy is included in the Individual Placement Program tuition rate. (see below)
Additional benefits:
-Individual
teaching and practice
-Frequent parent communication
-More family time
-Specific skill practice
-Frequent class participation
-Frequent teacher feedback
-Fewer distractions
-Specialized materials
-NILD therapy sessions (see below)
Cost (fees and tuition) IP Classes are for students 3rd-8th grades.
Testing Information
Our testing battery is a
two-part process. The first part of the battery is the administration of an
IQ test by a licensed psychologist. This test provides us with a profile of
your child's learning strengths and weaknesses.
The second section of the battery is designed to reveal your child's academic and processing strengths and weaknesses. The total testing time for this part of the battery is 5-6 hours (given in 2 sessions) and can be scheduled during school hours.
Test results will be used to determine specific activities and materials to address particular learning problems. After your child's testing has been completed, we will set up a conference with you to go over the results and recommendations.
Cost: $400
Discovery Program (NILD Therapy)
Covenant School’s
Discovery Program is an educational therapy program developed by the National
Institute for Learning Development. It is available to students both in the
Individual Placement and standard classrooms. “NILD Educational Therapy was
developed to treat assumed, underlying causes of learning difficulties rather
than the symptoms.” (NILD web site) Students
receive two 80 minute sessions of intensive educational therapy per week. Each
session is planned to address students’ specific areas of weakness using
techniques which are designed to “improve their overall ability to think, reason
and process information.” The goal of the Discovery Program through the use of
NILD Educational Therapy is to help students develop tools of learning in order
to be independent in both classroom and life long learning.
Additional Benefits:
-Techniques designed to target student’s area of difficulty
-Individualize instruction from a NILD trained educational therapist
-Student’s trained to view themselves as competent, confident learners
-Emphasize basic skill areas such as reading, writing, spelling, and math
-Regular collaboration between therapist, parents and teachers to assess
progress and adjust
educational programs appropriately
Cost - $240 per month - August-May
